Privacy Policy & Honor Code
Effective Date: February 14, 2026
At Originality Research Lab, we believe transparency is the foundation of academic integrity. This document outlines how we handle your data and the ethical standards we expect from our users.
Part I: Data Privacy Protocol
1. Data Collection & Minimization
We practice data minimization. We only collect data that is strictly necessary to perform the forensic analysis requested by the user.
- Input Text: The content you paste for scanning.
- Metadata: Browser type and timestamp (for abuse prevention).
- No PII: We do not require or store Personally Identifiable Information (name, email, student ID) for public scans.
2. Processing & Storage (The “RAM Rule”)
For our public scanner, we utilize a Volatile Memory Processing model.
Your submission is processed entirely within the server’s Random Access Memory (RAM). Once the session is closed or the analysis is complete, the data is overwritten and permanently irretrievable. We do not write submissions to hard drives or databases.
3. Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties. We do not share submissions with other plagiarism detection services (e.g., Turnitin), meaning scanning your draft here will not cause it to be flagged as “self-plagiarism” later.
Part II: The Academic Honor Code
“Technology is neutral; intent is what defines integrity. By using this tool, you agree to uphold the following ethical standards.”
Verification, Not Evasion
I will use this tool to verify the originality of my own work and ensure I have not inadvertently relied too heavily on AI assistance. I will not use it to “game” the system or obfuscate plagiarism.
Transparent Attribution
If I use AI for brainstorming, outlining, or editing, I will cite it transparently according to my institution’s guidelines (e.g., APA 7, MLA 9).
Respect for Rules
I acknowledge that my institution’s specific academic integrity policy supersedes any result provided by this tool.
Honest Representation
I will not submit work generated entirely by AI as my own, regardless of whether it passes this detection tool.
